: a drug C17H19N3O3S that inhibits gastric acid secretion and is taken orally in the short-term treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, erosive esophagitis, and disorders (such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome) involving gastric acid hypersecretion

Note: Omeprazole is a benzimidazole derivative that acts by inhibiting the activity of proton pumps in the stomach. It is marketed under the trademark Prilosec.
